The initial idea to create an Italian Gaming Lab was born out of a series of informal evenings in which Wesleyan faculty and students meet to play games and practice Italian.
The group quickly realized that many commercial board games needed tweaking in order to work well for language learning; thus the spark for a Gaming Lab that could adapt board games for language learning and create new language learning games was ignited.
Italian Game Nights continue at Wesleyan every semester, bringing together faculty, teaching assistants, and students in an informal setting; it also serves as a play-testing ground for games created in the Gaming Lab, as students bring their newly created / adapted games to be played at the end of the semester.
